FAQ's

What time do practices start and end?
Every day is a little bit different, but generally practices start @ 3:00p.m. and end @ 4:15 p.m. though we do dismiss those students that need to take the late bus at 4:00p.m.

Do I need to come to every practice as a member of the track and field team?
Members of the track and field team are required to come to practice every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.  Since regular attendance at practice is required for participation in meets, attendance is critical.  However, if a student has a prior commitment, the student may be excused from practice, if he/she brings a note in from home explaining the reason for the absence.  Since Bigelow doesn't have practice on Tuesdays, we encourage all students and families to try and make any appointments for Tuesdays.  Students who skip practice without a note, will not be added to the roster for the meet that week.

On what days of the week are meets held?
Typically meets can fall on any day of the week.  There are usually 7-8 regular meets held a season with a city-wide and state meet held at the end of the season for those that qualify.  The schedule will be distributed the first week of practice when it is completed.

Where are Bigelow home track and field meets?
Since Bigelow does not have a track, all meets are away.  There is usually one meet a season held at Newton North's track that counts for Bigelow's one home meet.

What time do meets start and end?
It is hard to determine exactly when meets start and end.  It depends on whether or not the busses pick the team up on time, how long it takes to drive to the meets, and what the traffic is like.  With that said, most meets will usually begin sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. and will end between 5:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  Since all of our meets are away, we usually get back to Bigelow close to 1/2 an hour after a meet ends.

Can I leave when I finish my event?
Being part of track and field means that you are part of a team, so we discourage participants from leaving before the meet is over in order to support all events and all members of the team.  With that said, we understand that participants and families have other commitments.  In the case that a member needs to leave early, we ask that he/she inform the coach.
