Week of 1/9-1/13

Now that we have studied the Articles of Confederation, their failure as a plan for America's national government, and the issues debated at the Constitutional Convention, we will begin preparing for our Constitutional Convention which will be held on Friday January 20, 2012.  

On Wednesday and Thursday this week each student will choose a delegate to study and will conduct research in school on the delegate, his role at the convention, and/or his position on the three main issues dealt with at the convention.  On Friday this week students will begin writing an essay about this topic, and in addition will prepare oral arguments for the convention to be held next Friday.  Directions and homework for Friday will be announced by this  Thursday.  Check in on Thursday for more information.

No homework Tuesday or Wednesday.

Thursday:  (1.) Finish note-taking sheet for your delegate using information from Ms.  Summa's Constitutional Convention link on the Bigelow Website and your own knowledge.

(2.)  From your note-taking sheet, type out your introduction, issue # 1 argument, issue #2 argument, issue # 3 argument, and closing statement.  Type in 14 or 16 pt font.  You will use this at the debate next Friday to help you argue.

Week of 12/12-12/16

Monday: Events Leading to the Revolution and Revolution Test is next Tuesday and Wednesday (12/20 & 12/21).  You need to start studying by choosing ten of the words in #2 on the study guide that you struggle the most with and create a fill in the blank quiz for those words.  Make sure to include a word bank for the words at the bottom or top of the page and to print four copies of the quiz for your group members.

Tuesday: Create a matching quiz for the seven laws listed in #3 on the study guide.  Print four copies and bring to class tomorrow.

Wednesday:  Choose three colonial actions/reactions from # 4 on the study guide and then create three cause and effect brainframes for them.  Use the textbook to help you or your worksheets used during this unit.

Thursday:  Answer questions A-E from #7 on the study guide.  Depending on the question, you can create a brainframe as your answer or write out an answer in sentences.

Welcome Back to School!

Dear 8th Grade Cluster F Students,
        
        I hope that you had a relaxing and fun summer.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you on September  6, 2011.  You will be studying American History this year in social studies.  Below is a list of things that you can do to prepare for the first day of school. Enjoy the rest of your summer.  See you soon!

Supplies

  • 1 two pocket folder (Plastic or cardstock; you get a lot of handouts.)
  • 1 spiral notebook or three ring binder (You don't need both.)
  • a full years supply of pencils (I don't loan them out!)
Summer Homework

On the first day of school, please come prepared to answer the following question.  You may want to prewrite or type your answer before coming to school.  It should be three to five sentences long.  In addition, imagine something you could draw (picture or symbol) to represent the ideas you put in writing.
