1. The Visions
This five-star system was brought to us from Syracuse, New York. Each vision
describes one aspect of effectively living in a responsible society. Our hope is
that students will employ the visions within the classroom,
as well as in their lives outside of Angier.
Blue Vision — A just community where people love and take care of themselves and others
Red Vision — A just community where people are safe and secure
Yellow Vision — A just community where healthy people work, play, and rest
Green Vision — A just community where people protect the environment and create beauty
Orange Vision — A just community where people are gifted and succeed in thinking and learning
2. Project Adventure
Approximately once per week, students engage in group problem-solving activities that
foster collaboration, cooperation, and trust.
3. Open Circle
Both Ms. Conrad and Mrs. Wigren have been formally trained in this structured-
social-competency program from the Stone Center in Wellesley. Circles
meet once to twice per week to discuss topics like responsibilty, teasing,
and problem solving. This program is utilized across the grade levels
at Angier, and as a result, teachers and children are provided with a
common language to use.
4. Modeling
Every teacher in the room models the visions as well as Angier's Core Values,
and we EXPECT students to be respectful, take responsibility,
work hard, and achieve their personal best each day.
5. Consistent Routines
We believe that children flourish in a structured learning environment.
We are vigilant about utilizing consistent systems for homework check-in,
discipline, and classroom expectations. This does NOT mean that flexibility
is not modeled. Rather, students know that they are coming everyday
into a room where they can feel safe and secure.
