Welcome to Horace Mann! Thanks for visiting our website. The Horace Mann Elementary School is one of 15 public elementary schools in Newton. Located in Newtonville, Horace Mann serves just under 350 students. Currently, we have 17 classrooms, approximately 3 sections of each grade, K-5. Students work cooperatively and collaboratively with their teachers in classrooms that average 21 students. They also participate in weekly specialist classes; art, library, music, and physical education. The Newton Public Schools are full inclusion, meaning children of all abilities work together in the mainstream classroom. Support is availiable from the classroom teacher, regular education support (Early Literacy Intervention, Title I), and the Special
Education Team (Inclusion Facilitator, School Psychologist, Learning Center Teachers, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, and Physical Therapist). Our English Language Learners are assisted by the ELL staff. Our Mission Statement: The Horace Mann School is a place where children are encouraged to achieve to their highest potential while being responsible for their actions, respectful of themselves and others, and becoming confident and self-assured contributing members of the school community. Students, teachers and parents make up the Horace Mann Community. We all work to adhere to our Core Beliefs; Effort and Hard Work, Care and Respect, Critical Thinking, and Risk Taking for Learning. We are proud of the work we do to maintain strong working relationships. Children arrive happy and eager to learn each morning and leave the same way each afternoon.
