Dear Students and Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Team 8E. I look forward to working with you throughout the year as we engage in learning about the people, places and events that have helped shape the United States.  Below you will find all the information you need to know about social studies this year!

In 8th grade the history content is United States history from 1775-1865.  We will be looking in depth at events such as the American Revolution, the Constitution and U.S. Government, major themes in the 19th Century and the Civil War.
How will I be graded?
Grades are determined in the following categories:
*Homework 30%-This year you will have an opportunity to choose the homework assignments you would like to complete off of a “homework menu”. All homework menu items are designed to review or expand upon what we are learning in class. This year we will be experimenting with Google Docs.  In addition, at the beginning of any unit of study you will be given and “Reading Study Guide”. This RSG is a take-home summary of the chapter that we are studying and will serve as you class notes.Tests: 20% Throughout the year we will take tests on major units of study. Generally you can find me in the a.m. starting at 7:30 and at the end of the school day. In addition, extra help time is built into the school day usually during period 4.
How can I find out about the work that I missed when I was absent?
Homework and upcoming due dates for assignments are always posted on my homework folder off the Bigelow website.

In addition, if there are any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at  Once again, I look forward to working and getting to know all of you this coming year.
