Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
May 31, 2019
Dear Bowen Families,
Please forgive the lateness of this week’s weekly newsletter.  The four day school week just wasn’t enough time to get everything done during a busy end of the year.  Instead of wishing some of our 4th and 5th grade runners well, I would like to congratulate all of our students who participated in this weekend’s Girls on the Run 5K!  With just 12 days left of school for students, I would like to invite you to reflect on the successes of the year and celebrate!  It has been a wonderful year of learning and community building!  Thank you for all of your support and  everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!
Yours truly,
News You Need to Know
The Newton METCO Family Welcome Event
The Newton METCO Family Welcome Event will be held at Angier Elementary School on Friday, June 7th, 2019, 6:30pm - 8:30pm.  This event is an opportunity for families and/or staff at your schools to meet the incoming families for SY 19-20.
Join us to meet current resident and METCO families at your new school. You will have the opportunity to meet your METCO Counselor and bus monitor. At the event we will be taking photos of each student to provide to the bus monitor. This will assist with proper identification on the first day of school. Children are invited!

Library Reminder
Here are some important dates for the library as we prepare for the end of the year:
Friday June 7th: All student books are due back to the library
The earlier books are returned in June, the more helpful it is for the library inventory to be completed.
Color Day
Color day is this week!  It is always a great day to celebrate fitness, teamwork and community.  Please be sure to send your child in wearing the assigned color, sneakers, a labeled water bottle, and sunscreen!
Crossing Guard and Bus Driver Appreciation, June 14
On Friday, June 14, we will show our crossing guards and bus drivers how much we appreciate their help getting to school safely. Please make a thank you note and give it on your way to school on Friday, June 14th to to any of the following people who help you get to school safely: Roman Baran in front of the school, Lorin Amendola at Cypress and Jackson, Ellen Fiore at Langley Path and/or Susan Barish at Parker and Daniel. Or, perhaps you take the bus with: Ben, Bob Vanaria and Monique Houston.  Your note can be simple: "Thanks for helping me get to school safely!"  They will appreciate it so much!
This is Susan Barish's last year as a Crossing Guard, after 28 years on the job and 21 years on Parker and Daniel! Let's give her an extra thank you!
Are You Moving Before September?
As we started the placement process for the upcoming school year, there have been some conversations that students have shared with teachers about potentially moving before the next school year.  If you are planning to move out of the Bowen district prior to September 2019, please inform the office and the classroom teacher as soon as possible.  This will help us gather the required information to share with the new school as well as help us to create more accurate class placements for the upcoming school year.
