Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
May 3, 2019
Dear Bowen Families,
Many Bowen families participated in NewtonSERVES this past Sunday. They spent their morning cleaning up our playground and the gardens around our school.  The work was noticeable as classes headed out to enjoy recess!  We appreciate all of the work you did to help Bowen look great.  Grade level teams will continue the work by showing their own playground pride for the remainder of the year.  Each week a grade level team has signed up to clean up our playground.  Please do your part when you are visiting the playground after school or during the week.  Be sure to pick up trash, put equipment away and bring all personal items home with you.  Thank you for all that you did to ensure this school year was successful!  Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Have a wonderful weekend, see you on Monday.
Yours truly,

2019 - 2020 Placement Information is Due on Monday
Starting this month, we will begin our work to create balanced classrooms for the next school year.  An important part of this process is the feedback we will be requesting from parents/guardians regarding your child’s learning style, goals you have for your child, and social information regarding his/her peers.  Included in this email is a placement form that you may use to give us feedback regarding your child that will help us in our process. This optional form will need to be returned to school by this Monday, May 6th. Optional Placement Form  We are sorry that we cannot accept late placement forms.
Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week
Next week is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week.  Please join me in thanking our Bowen staff for all they do to make Bowen such a special school!  Feel free to write them a note, send them an email, saying “thank you” at pick up or have your child make a special card or picture for their teacher.
Back to School Night 2019
It’s not too early to plan for next year!  Bowen’s Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 11th.  More details to come in the fall!
From Mr. Smith, Our Physical Education & Health and Wellness Teacher
Good afternoon Bowen families,
It’s hard to believe that there are only 6 weeks left in the school year. With the weather seemingly becoming nicer by the day I’ll be looking to take classes outside during PE when the weather permits. Last week was the start of our soccer skills unit. With the size of our gym, the upper field makes a better place for some of our upcoming lessons. Below is a link from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention with some sun safety tips for families.
In other news, bike safety round two is scheduled to be Monday May 13th from 8:45-9:45 for 5 Torres and 5 Wong / Munnelly and Monday May 20th from 9:15-10:15 for 5 Tagliaferri and 5 Chapin / Malagodi. We are still looking for 3 more parent volunteer riders for 5/13 to make this ride possible. Please let me know if you are able to ride with us ASAP. Below is a link with information about bike and pedestrian safety from Safe Routes to School.

Lastly, this years color day will be Tuesday June 4th with a rain date of Tuesday June 11th. As always the parents play a huge part in the success of our Color Day and Bowen is looking for at least 24 volunteers for this event. If you are interested and available to volunteer please contact Lina Yoshida at
Looking forward to the rest of the year,
Alex Smith
