Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
March 15, 2019

Dear Bowen Families,
Spring is on its way!  A student shared, today, that she saw a flower on her way to school!  With the warm temperatures, a mud bowl has been created throughout the fields.  Let’s hope the water is absorbed quickly so that we can enjoy warmer weather mud free!  Thank you for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the weekend, see you next week!
Yours truly,
News You Need to Know
Thank You Bowen Family and Bowen PTO
I am excited to share that this winter the PTO approved the purchase of short throw projectors for grade level classrooms, as well as for the auditorium and art room.  This will allow staff to use technology more efficiently and will create more space in each classroom.  The district is currently processing the purchase and beginning to plan for the installation.  Thank you so much for your support and generosity!
Spring Family and Teacher Conferences
The conference window for parents and guardians begins on Monday!  The expectation is that every family will attend a scheduled conference at some point over the course of the month, even if it falls slightly outside Newton’s window.  This is a great opportunity to reinforce the home and school connect, learn what your child is learning, and discuss their successes as well as areas for growth.
Join Us at the Bowen Community Forum
Please join me at the community forum meeting with the Superintendent and some School Committee members this Thursday, March 21 at 8:30 a.m. in the Staff Room.  This a time with the Superintendent and School Committee as they share some of their goals for the district over the next year.  It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions, share concerns, meet district leaders, and connect with other Bowen parents and guardians.  I hope to see you there.
Bowen Science Day - Sunday, April 7, 2019 – Final chance to register
Thank you everyone who has registered their child for Bowen’s Science Day! If your child has not yet registered, you may do so until this Sunday, March 17. Please sign up online at:
After this date we can’t guarantee space (or a t-shirt!).
If your student is not sure what they want to work on yet, register anyway so we have space for them at the event. You may write “unsure” as the project; then take a look at the many resources available at for ideas! We can’t wait to see what the kids explore for this year’s event!
Please email any questions to
Bowen's Book Fair and BAM Night (Books, Art, Music) – Wednesday, March 27
Volunteer to participate in this year's BAM Night!!!  We have received great response for volunteers during the day at the Book Fair.  Thanks so much to those of you who have signed up.  Now, we really need help in the evening.  We also are short on contributions to our Bake Sale.  Who can whip up a quick batch of cookies to donate?  Gooey brownies anyone?  Family recipes?  We appreciate any help you can give us and we really hope to see you there!
BAM Night Volunteers Needed!
Book fair:  Volunteers are needed to help kids select and purchase books, and to help with set-up/clean-up and with book and food sales during the event. Sign up here:
