Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
January 18, 2019

Dear Bowen Families,
This week, in school, students engaged in discussions and activities recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and the impact of Dr. King and others as they advocated for racial equality.  His words and beliefs continue to impact the values of our country and our school.  At Bowen, we work to ensure that all members of our community are kind, safe, respectful and engaged.  This weekend, I hope you find time to reflect on a quote we have posted in our community message board, “No person has the right to rain on your dreams.”  Thank you for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the long weekend, stay warm and enjoy the snow, see you next week!
Yours truly,

Newton’s 51st Annual MLK Celebration
The 51th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will be Monday, January 21th at 9:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Newton Center.  The Newton Community Celebration was first established in 1968.  The Community Celebration was founded by members of the Myrtle Baptist Church as a means of remembering the civil rights leader in the context of a community celebration of his life and the ideals he strove to achieve for all people.  This is a family event with a large attendance and includes music & short recitations by students from the Newton Public Schools.
Incoming Kindergarten Registration
Are you the parent of a child who will be entering Kindergarten next year?  Do you know of someone else who has a child who will be joining our Bowen community for the 2019-2020 school year? Please let Ms. Megrian in the office know if you have the name of any incoming kindergarten student, even if you think he or she is already on the list.  Newton has made changes to the kindergarten registration process--please check out the Kindergarten Registration website at <http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/Page/2912> for additional information.
