Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
November 16, 2018
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Bowen Families,
It is hard to believe we just had our first snow delay… and it’s only November 16th!  I guess we can’t postpone it, it is time for us to take out our winter gear and prepare for the winter!  Please be sure to label all of the winter gear.  This will help decrease the possibility of something getting lost at school.
We are also busy getting ready for the upcoming November break! This week’s newsletter includes information for the next two weeks.   We appreciate all your efforts to make this week fun, special and safe!  Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the weekend, see you next week!
Yours truly,
Diana
Weekly News
Blue Zone Reminder
It is important for all families to follow the Blue Zone guidelines, especially in poor weather.  This includes remaining in the vehicle as your child leaves the vehicle independently.  If your child is unable to do so, or needs assistance during arrival, please park in an authorized spot, do not park in the Blue Zone.  For more information about the Blue Zone, as well as our drop off and pick up procedures, please check out our website:  http://www2.newton.k12.ma.us/~diana_guzzi/?OpenItemURL=S08DA1ED2-08DA1ED2
School Closing Information
There are many ways for families to stay up to date about the latest school closing and delays, typically due to weather.  Information is shared the following ways:
  • Phone call or email from Newton Public Schools, be sure to check your phone and/or email
  • Visit the Newton Public Schools Website, https://www.newton.k12.ma.us/Domain/4
  • Check a local tv station or their website, click on “school closings”
  •
  • Be Active - Walk, Bike or Roll to Bowen on 11/21 and join the PTO for Coffee
  • On Wednesday November 21st, we encourage all families to Be Active and walk, bike or roll to Bowen or to your bus stop - rain or shine. Consider walking or biking if you live close enough, park a few blocks away and walk the remaining distance, or walk to your bus stop. Walk with a friend. Walk with someone on your street or around the corner, and parents can join the Bowen PTO for a coffee in front of the school before you start your day!
  • Bowen Spirit Wear
  • Are you looking for some great holiday gifts for your children (or for yourself)? Bowen's 5th grade class is raising money for their 5th Grade Activity Fund by selling Bowen Spiritwear beginning Wednesday, November 14th.  Items include Bowen t-shirts, hooded sweatshirts, sweatpants and brand new flannel pajama pants and pom-pom hats! Get some holiday shopping done early and help your child show his or her love for Bowen!
  • Visit  Bowen Spirit Wear Order Form to place your order or find Stephanie Toettcher and Shay Zandman outside of school at drop-off and pick-up times. Orders will be accepted until November 28th and will be ready to pick up on December 18th.
  • Holiday Helpers
  • The holidays are a busy time for everyone, and we know that it can be a challenging time as well.  If your family is in need of some assistance during the upcoming holiday season, please contact our Bowen Social Worker, Stephanie Baumann, or Principal, Diana Guzzi.  We look forward to hearing about how we can help!
