Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
September 28, 2018
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Dear Bowen Families,
It has been wonderful to have students in school for five days in a row this week!  Students have settled into the new school year’s routine and are enjoying learning and making connections with friends.  I would like to thank the 4th and 5th grade families for hosting the first staff appreciation luncheon of the year!  The staff enjoyed a delicious meal before engaging in professional development.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy your weekend!
Yours truly,
Diana
Weekly News
School Safety Day, Evacuation Walk - Update
This morning, everyone at Bowen School had the opportunity to practice some of our safety procedures both inside and outside the school.  These included a lockdown for times when we want to keep everyone safe inside their learning spaces and an evacuation walk for a time when we might have to have all students and staff leave the building and gather in an off-site location.  With umbrellas, raincoats and rain boats, we were able to quickly and safely leave the building, walk to the Church of the Newtons, and walk back to school before 9:45 a.m.  If you happened to be passing through Newton Centre between 9:00-9:30 a.m., you may have seen us on our walk!  It was a successful school safety day!
Save the Date:  Responsive Home Workshop for KINDERGARTEN PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Join Newton Public Schools’ Amy Kelly, District Leader of Social and Emotional Learning, of Newton Public Schools on Monday, October 15th, 6:30-8:30pm, at the Day Middle School Auditorium, 21 Minot Place, Newtonville. Learn more about useful steps to creating a Responsive Home including: family meeting, house rules, interactive modeling, positive language, logical consequences, as well as choice and quiet time.
Creative Arts and Science Program
On October 17th, Creative Arts and Sciences will kick off another year of great programming with a visit by the Voci Angelica Trio.  During this all-school program, entitled "Passages," students will learn about geography, the early history of human emigration, and the diverse cultures, languages and music of six continents.  Programs like this are funded by your donations to the PTO.  We are grateful for your ongoing support of opportunities like this for all students at Bowen!
