Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
June 8, 2018

Dear Bowen Families,
It was so nice to see so many families and friends over the past week enjoying field trips, concerts and classroom presentations.  We look forward to seeing more families and friends next week as classes continue to celebrate their year of learning!  Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Have a great weekend!
Yours truly,

News You Need to Know
Bowen 5th Grade Car Wash Tomorrow, Saturday, June 9!
Is your car covered in pollen? This Saturday, June 9th, Bowen’s 5th graders will be in front of Bowen School on Cypress Street from 11:00am-3:00pm eagerly willing to wash it for a donation of $10.
All donations will go to the Bowen Legacy Scholarship, a scholarship established for a Bowen alumni graduating from Newton South High School to help with the cost of college. This year’s recipient will be coming to Bowen in a few weeks to thank our 5th graders and speak to them about high school and the college application process. Thank you for helping Bowen students learn the importance of giving back to one’s community!
If you have a 5th grader who hasn’t signed up yet, please do so here:

4th Grade Volunteers Need
We will be having our final 4th grade Understanding our Differences program on learning disabilities next week on Thursday, June 14th. UOD is a wonderful program that teaches the kids about the challenges people with disabilities face and how we can treat their situations with respect.
We still need several volunteers to help lead activities for the kids. If we don’t have enough parent volunteers, the program will need to be significantly pared back. The program runs from 10AM- 12PM but parents will be needed to lead activities from 10:15 AM to 11:30 AM.  Please volunteer if you can!
A sign up sheet can be found at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/60B0E4FA9AB2EA31-4thgrade. If you have any questions please contact the parent coordinator, Christina Wong Chin at (617) 610-6298 or stina103@gmail.com. Thank you for your help!

Bowen PTO Leadership Needed
Bowen is in need of new leadership for the 2018-19 school year.  In addition to maintaining and expanding a strong sense of community between students, family and staff at Bowen, I would like to develop a stronger community partnership that focuses on science and technology.  PTO leadership focused on science and technology would complement other leadership teams and their work at Bowen.
With new PTO leadership we will continue to focus on emphasizing the importance of community with students and family, as well as develop a shared vision of how students experience science and technology at Bowen.  I hope this new focus will motivate you to join the PTO leadership to collaborate with me and our school community.  Please email me if you would like to speak more about this PTO leadership opportunity.Return

All Library Books
Please return all library books to Bowen by Tuesday, June 12.  Thank you!
