Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
December 22 , 2017

Dear Bowen Families,
It has been a great year at Bowen and we celebrated the last school day in 2017 with our School Spirit Day and an all school assembly.  3rd graders presented winter poems and shared information about how Bowen students and staff like to enjoy winter days.  Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the vacation week, see you in 2018!
Yours truly,

Newton’s 50th Annual MLK Celebration
The 50th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration will be Monday, January 15th at 9:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church, Newton Center.  The Newton Community Celebration was first established in 1968.  The Community Celebration was founded by members of the Myrtle Baptist Church as a means of remembering the civil rights leader in the context of a community celebration of his life and the ideals he strove to achieve for all people.  This is a family event with a large attendance and includes music & short recitations by students from the Newton Public Schools.
MCAS Testing Schedule
While springtime seems a little far away at the moment, we wanted everyone to have the dates for MCAS testing in grades 3, 4, and 5 well in advance.  Our testing window was determined by the district to ensure that each school will have the appropriate IT support.  We understand that some absences are unavoidable, but we do ask that everyone be mindful of the testing dates when making appointments, etc.  Testing will be computer-based for all grades.  We know that this impacts some of our CAS Programs and Community Blocks, we hope that you will collaborate with us to accommodate the MCAS Schedule.
