Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
November 17, 2017
___________________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Bowen Families,
Happy birthday, Bowen!  This week the Bowen school building celebrates its 65th year.  Ask your children, “In what year was Bowen built?”  We are getting ready for the upcoming November break and so this week’s newsletter includes information for the next two weeks.   We appreciate all your efforts to make this week fun, special and safe!  Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the weekend, see you next week!
Yours truly,
Diana

News You Need to Know

Holiday Helpers
The holidays are a busy time for everyone, and we know that it can be a challenging time as well.  If your family is in need of some assistance during the upcoming holiday season, please contact our Bowen Social Worker, Stephanie Baumann or Principal, Diana Guzzi.  We look forward to hearing about how we can help!

Candy Donation Update - A Message from Wellesley Dental Group
Thank you to our wonderful community for helping make our 10th Annual Candy Drive a huge success. Every year, the drive grows in size and scope. What started as a small candy buy back with a handful of local kids has grown into an endeavor that spans the Metrowest: this year, we have 41 number of schools participating, along with numerous businesses and organizations. Best of all, we have collected more candy than ever before: we have shattered a record of nearly 10,000 pounds of candy. To be exact, if anyone is curious, we collected 9,883.3 pounds of candy.

Student Attendance
Students are able to do their best learning when they are here at school on a consistent basis.  It is every parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child attends school every day on time and ready to learn. If a student is absent from school, parents must contact the school (Safe Call Back telephone line 617 559-9350).  For more than three days illness, written documentation is necessary in order to ensure that the student is excused from school. If your family is traveling, please notify the teacher in advance of your trip.
Students who are absent or tardy for more than 10 days will receive a letter from the principal. Families whose child has more than 15 days absent or tardy from school will meet with the principal and other staff to discuss creating an attendance plan.  If attendance is identified as a chronic issue, we will work with the district's Attendance Officer to address our concerns.
