Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
November 3, 2017

Dear Bowen Families,
This week was another busy week for our school community.  Families continue to meet with teachers for fall conference, the PTO hosted the Boowen Halloween Party, K and 1st grade participated in the Halloween parade, and each of our classrooms have been full of activity. There is still more fun to be had this week at the PTO’s Mystery Dinner!  We appreciate all your efforts to make this week fun, special and safe!  Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the weekend, see you next week!
Yours truly,

News You Need to Know
Bowen School Council - New Members
We would like to welcome new teacher and parent representatives to the Bowen School Council!  Sandi Dickerson (teacher), Helen Sheehy (teacher) and Andy Sokatch (parent) are looking forward to contributing to this year’s School Council work.  The group’s first meeting is on Friday, November 17 at 7:30 a.m. here at Bowen.  Other meeting dates include December 15, January 26, March 16, April 27 and May 25.  All meetings are open to the Bowen community, so feel free to join us!

Trick or Treat for UNICEF
Trick or Treat for UNICEF boxes should be brought to school by Monday.  The 5th grade student council will be counting the donations next week.  They hope to raise $1000 this year.  We will let you know how much Bowen collected in next week’s weekly blast.

Private School Applications
We understand that families are already thinking about placement for next year, including pursuing private school options.  While we would love for families to continue in the Newton Public Schools, we also understand how thoughtful families are when considering whether to enroll their children in private school.  Most of our requests apply specifically to transitioning from elementary school to middle school.  We are asking that families reach out to the office and the homeroom teachers as soon as they know they plan to submit applications to private schools.  Providing advance notice to the school will allow us time to organize application materials and student records, as well as complete thoughtful personalized recommendations. All completed applications will be sent in one transmission directly from the Bowen office. Application materials are not returned directly to families.
