Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
October 27, 2017
____________________________________________________________________________________________

Dear Bowen Families,

I would like to thank all of our first graders and their teaching team for spending their community block outside cleaning the playground.  Please help them keep the playground safe and clean! There is also a lot of excitement going into the weekend as we look forward to seeing many families at this year’s Boowen Halloween Party.  We hope you can join the PTO! Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy the weekend, see you on Monday!

Yours truly,
Diana

Halloween Safety Shared By Nurse Rosen
With witches, goblins and super-heroes descending on neighborhoods this month, it’s important to remember a few safety tips to keep Halloween fun and safe for everyone.
  • Walk, slither, and sneak on sidewalks, not on the street or around parked cars
  • Look both ways before crossing the street to check for cars, trucks and low-flying brooms
  • Carry a flashlight to light your way
  • Adults or responsible teenagers should accompany trick-or-treaters
  • Save the candy eating for home when an adult can look through the treats
  • Throw away opened candy and be cautious of small, hard candy with young children
  • Keep the capes & other costume parts away from candles and feet that might trip
  • Use face paint rather than masks that can limit vision
  • Go only to houses with the lights on
  • Adapted from the American Red Cross
  • Trick or Treat for UNICEF
  • This month the 5th grade student council is sponsoring the Trick or Treat for UNICEF fundraiser.  5th grade student council members have been visiting classes to encourage students to participate.  They have shared the following message with the classrooms they visited:
  • Trick or Treat for Unicef is when kids collect money to donate to Unicef.  You will each get a little box and you’ll ask for donations to Unicef. Any amount is fine, you may also give your own money to Unicef.
  • After Halloween please place your donation boxes on the table in the lobby.  Our goal is 1000 dollars. If 400 students raise $3 we will exceed our goal by 200.
  • Please help Bowen reach our goal to raise $1000.  Stop by the office if you would like additional UNICEF boxes for siblings or friends.
  •
  • Annual Candy Drive
  • Bowen will be participating in the Wellesley Dental Group's 10th Annual Community Candy Drive to benefit the U.S. Troops serving overseas.  Please have your children drop off unwanted or excess Halloween candy in the front lobby during the week of November 1st.
  • Message From Ms. Granada, Music Specialist
  • Dear Bowen Families,
  • I am writing to inform you all about an exciting event that is coming up this December!
  • As some of you may know from last year, Bowen families were invited to attend a Providence Bruins hockey game where some students from chorus sang "America the Beautiful" before the game. From what I hear, it was a really great night for everyone and a fun experience for students to sing at a sports game. I am happy to say we will be participating in this again on Sunday, December 10th at 3pm. All 4th and 5th grade chorus students are invited to participate and all Bowen students/teachers/families/friends are welcome to attend, however they must find their own way of transportation to the game.
  • If you are interested, please see the attached flyer Providence Bruins Flyer  for details and return it to me when it is filled out. I will also have flyers available at school if students would like to receive one this week. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to contact me! Thank you so much for your support!
