Bowen’s Weekly Family Update
September 15, 2017
Dear Bowen Families,
Happy Friday!  We just completed our first 5-day week!  It was a busy week!  I enjoyed seeing families and staff enjoy the PTO Picnic and was grateful to escape the dunk tank.  It was also nice to see so many families attend the Back to School Night.  Teachers thoughtfully shared an overview of the year for each grade.  Families were excited to hear about all the great things in store for their children this year and enjoyed the opportunity to see the classrooms.  I also would like to thank all of the families for working with our school as we implement the new morning drop off procedure.  Families and students have adjusted quickly to having students walk independently to their classrooms!  To end our week we gathered as a school for our first Bowen All-School Meeting during the Community Block. This time is just one way we continue to build and develop relationships and community in our school. Thank you again for everything you do to help your children develop and grow as learners.  Bowen is a great place to be!  Enjoy your weekend, and we will see you on Monday!

Yours truly,

News You Need to Know
First Fire Drill Practice
Today we we successfully completed our first school wide fire drill evacuation.  Students safely, quickly, and quietly exited the building and gathered at the upper field in a timely manner.  This is an opportunity for students to practice leaving the building while listening to the loud fire alarm and seeing the flashing lights.  This ensures that they know what to expect in case of an emergency.  We will continue to practice throughout the year so that students and staff feel prepared if there is an emergency that requires us to evacuate the building.

Keeping Our Playground Safe and Clean
Please help us keep our playground safe and clean!  Remind your child to throw away any trash, pick up recess equipment and be sure not to leave personal items outside.  If you find any lost and found items they can be brought to the Lost and Found rack in the lobby.  This is one way we can demonstrate our expectations to be safe and respectful.

NPS Lunch Monitors Needed
Lunch monitors are needed at the Newton elementary schools listed below. These are great hours for a stay-at-home parent/grandparent or anyone who wants to work a couple of hours a day. The hours range from 2 ¼  – 2 ½ hours per day, 4 days a week, at $13.14 an hour.  Please call the school directly to set up an interview.
