Dear Bowen Community,

We are so grateful to kick off the school year with so many wonderful and dedicated staff members at Bowen.  Their commitment to Bowen and students was clear during our opening week.  This fall, one of our staff members does require a guide dog.  A guide dog is a service dog trained to assist a visually impaired person.  This guide dog is a professional dog and will obey her visually impaired handler when in school.  It will be important for students to remember, if they see the guide in the building, that the dog is working and should not be approached, touched or called.

We understand that students may have various reactions to seeing a guide dog at Bowen.  If a child has a question, it should be directed to a staff member.   We have also reached out to families who identified a dog allergy in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all members of our school.  Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions.

Yours truly,
