Dear Bowen Families,
Happy Friday!  Once we come back to school on Monday, we’ll be in the “last Monday”...”last Tuesday”...phase of the 2017-2018 school year.  Otherwise known as the big finish!  While we still have five more days of school before hitting the magic number of 180, this will be the final issue of Bowen News for 2016-2017.  We hope that your year has been filled with wonderful moments and memories...ours certainly was!  Each and every year, we take this time to reflect...REALLY reflect...upon how fortunate we are to work in the Bowen community with such a dedicated and caring staff, committed families, and fantastic students.  We know that summer break is highly anticipated (and will be thoroughly enjoyed), but being part of Bowen makes it a pleasure to come back together in the fall.  Thank you for everything you do to make Bowen the place to be!
Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany
News You Need to Know
Last Day of School
The last day of school is Friday, June 23rd.  Dismissal is at 12:00 p.m. on that day.  We will see you then!

Bowen PTO Retirement Celebration
Please join the entire Bowen community for a chance to say goodbye to Laura DiBenedetti, Noriko Ohkami, Lynne Tabor. and Jane Walsh. On Monday, June 19th, the Bowen community will host a farewell celebration on the playground with cake and beverages from 3:15-4:15 p.m.  This will be a wonderful opportunity to catch up with former students and families. We look forward to seeing you there!

A Note from the 5th Grade - Food Drive!
Dear Bowen families,
During the winter holidays, the Newton community donates more to the Newton food pantry than in the summer vacation due to holiday cheer.  But the summer is a understocked time for the Newton Food Pantry. Therefore more people will go hungry.   We at Bowen Elementary School do not want others to go hungry.  That is why we have made it our mission to help them. We are collecting food to donate to our local food pantry.   However, the food we are collecting to donate does not grow on trees.  We rely on your thoughtful donations.  The food we collect does have some guidelines, though.  The food we collect should not need expensive cookware, such as a microwave.  The foods must not go bad. Some foods that you could donate are:
  • Canned food
  • Chips
  • Crackers
  • Cookies              And much more that you can donate to the helpless and hungry people.
  • Please place your donations in the box on the table in the lobby.  The deadline for donations is Monday, June 19th in order to give us time to organize and drop off the collections.  We thank you for your cooperation and donation!
  • Progress Reports
  • June progress reports will be available for viewing on Wednesday, June 21st.  This provides some time to follow up with the classroom teacher regarding any questions or concerns.  Please let us know if you have difficulty accessing your child’s report!
  • Class Placement Lists
  • Placement information will be sent to families on Friday, August 25th.  It’s always so exciting to find out who your new teacher will be!
  • New Classroom Visits
  • Another date for your calendar!  On Thursday, August 31st from 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., teachers will welcome families into Bowen for a brief visit to their new classrooms.
  • Placement Update/Grade Level Staffing
  • As of this week, all grade levels have met to work on creating balanced class placements for the 2017-2018 school year.  There is so much information to consider as we move forward with this process, and we appreciate all the input we have received to help us thoughtfully build classrooms.  The work will continue over the summer as we receive new registrations and make adjustments accordingly.  In the meantime, here are the grade level teaching assignments for next year!
