Dear Bowen Families,

Happy Friday!  Can you guess what “National Day” today is?  Here’s a hint:
There once was a neighborhood school
Where everyone thought learning was cool
The days were not boring
And students were soaring
‘Cause focus on kids was the rule!

Yes, it’s National Limerick Day!  (No, we are not great writers of poetry.)  However, we hope that the point gets across that we know that everyone who is part of the Bowen community is highly invested in children and wants to do everything possible to help every student be successful!  Thank you for everything you do to help your children grow and learn both in and outside of school.  Your support helps makes Bowen great!  Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see you on Monday!
Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

Upcoming CAS Program for Grades 2-5 - Author Jarrett J. Krosoczka
Creative Arts + Science is excited to announced that best selling author/illustrator Jarrett J. Krosoczka will visit Bowen’s 2nd - 5th graders on Monday, June 5th!  Jarrett creates books with humor, heart, and a deep respect for his young readers. As Ms. Mason can attest, Jarrett’s books are very popular in the library!  We hope that this program will give students something to look forward to at the end of year and inspire summer reading.
Jarrett will hold two assemblies - one for grades 2 & 3, and one for grades 4 & 5, as well as conducting writing workshops for grades 4 & 5.  He will also sign books between presentations, so families may wish to purchase copies of Jarrett’s books before the day of the visit to have signed.
His visit will be much more exciting, and have greater impact, if students are familiar with Jarrett’s work.  Books are available from the Bowen library and the public library.  Ms. Mason can also help provide copies of Jarrett’s books and additional suggestions for in class activities.  Some of Jarrett’s most popular titles include the Lunch Lady graphic novel series, the Platypus Police Squad novels for middle grade readers, and several books in the Jedi Academy series.
If you have any questions about this event, please contact Lisa Butts (lisa.john.kate.adam@gmail.com) or Elisa Friedman (elisa.d.friedman@gmail.com).
