Dear Bowen Families,

Happy Friday!  Was it really just a week ago that we were enjoying our April break?  We think it’s fair to say that everyone here at Bowen hit the ground running once the doors re-opened on Monday morning...it has been a very busy few days around here!  This is the time of the school year when everyone starts to really feel the end of the school year looming (or beckoning) and gets to thinking about all that needs to be done between Day #141 and Day #180.  There are still so many exciting things in store for your children during these last two months of school...so let’s all rest up and recharge to be ready to learn!  Have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday into the month of May!

Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

Newton Community Forum Follow Up
On Wednesday, March 22nd, Newton Public Schools hosted a forum entitled "Talking to Children About Race: Why & How?" More than 125 parents and guardians from elementary schools across the district attended the event. During the evening, participants had the opportunity to reflect upon their own experiences with race, as well as receive “how-to” help for guiding children and answering challenging questions.
Did you miss the forum but are interested in potential follow up events and activities? Please click here to provide your contact information and indicate your areas of interest.

We hope to continue the conversation in the coming months and will continue the work we are already doing in our school to explore, respect, and celebrate our differences.

2017-2018 Placement Information
During the months of May and June, we will begin our work to create balanced classrooms for the next school year.  An important part of this process is the feedback we will be requesting from parents/guardians regarding your child’s learning style, goals you have for your child, and social information regarding his/her peers.  Either today or early next week, we will send home a placement form that you may use to give us feedback regarding your child that will help us in our process. This optional form will need to be returned to school by Monday, May 8th.  We are sorry that we cannot accept late placement forms.  Optional Student Information Form For Placement

Bowen Baggies for Books - A Note from Mrs. Mason
Please help us add more books to the Bowen School Library by participating in “Bowen Baggies for Books”. The fifth grade students will be giving out baggies to all of the Bowen students. Students should fill the baggies with money! The money will be used to buy books such as Big Nate and Toon Books! The class who donates the most money will be the class to check out the books for the first time. And there's more... if we raise over $3,000, Mrs. Mason will add blue to her hair. We will collect money from May 1st  to May 12th.
Thank you for helping make our library a better place!
