Dear Bowen Families,
Happy Friday!  Believe it or not, we have four more school days until April break.  This school year is flying by!  And what a joy to see the sun make an appearance today!  It feels like we’re turning a corner weather-wise and finally going to enjoy some beautiful springtime temperatures.  Time to start planning all those outdoor activities that we’ve been missing throughout the winter!  We hope that you do something fun with family, friends, or both over the weekend and come back on Monday refreshed and recharged for our short week.  Thank you for helping to make Bowen a great place to be!
Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

News You Need to Know

Bowen Science Day Recap
The 2nd Annual Bowen Science Day was a rousing success!  If you stopped by Bowen on Sunday afternoon, you were treated to over 100 science projects from children of all ages about every possible topic!  We even got a shout-out in the Newton STEM Newsletter: http://newtonstem.org/2017/04/bowen-elementary-science-day/
Thank you so much to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to plan, organize, and run this outstanding event!

Last Day of School
The School Committee has spoken!  Due to the four snow days in Newton this year, the last day of school for students will be Friday, June 23rd.  The last day for staff will be Monday, June 26th.

Budget Update
Last night, the School Committee approved the budget for the 2017-18 school year. It is a budget that reflects our commitment to improving student achievement and providing strong supports for all students.
For detailed information on the initial budget presentation, as well as the restorations, please visit the district web page at: https://tinyurl.com/lahbbx9

Lost and Found
We have a new setup for our lost and found!  Coats and jackets are hanging on the rack outside the office, while gloves, hats, and mittens are on the lobby table.  Take a look and see if you can claim any items that have gone missing from home!  Any items remaining when we break for April vacation will be donated.

A Note From the Bowen Library
Hello families,
Please help support the Bowen Library by making a donation to the Bound to Stay Bound program.  We are almost halfway to the goal and the deadline for this round is APRIL 21st.
Contributions can be made in two ways:
1. Select specific titles from the school wish list. Donor name plates can be customized and inserted in each book selected.
2. Contribute a specific dollar amount and Bound to Stay Bound will select titles from the wish list to fulfill the amount.
To purchase a book or make a general donation click on the “make a donation” button on the top right part of the page.
Thank you so much!!!
If you have any questions please email  Donna Mason, at Donna_Mason@newton.k12.ma.us

Staffing Updates
  • In Kindergarten, Sarah Paisner will be taking over for Julie Beil as she goes out on maternity leave for the remainder of the school year.  This will be a very smooth transition for the class, as Sarah has been part of that classroom community from the beginning of the year.  Please “welcome” her in her new role!
