Dear Bowen Families,

Happy Friday!  Believe it or not, the Thanksgiving holiday and break is sneaking up on us!  And before we know it, we will turn the calendar page to the month of December.  Time flies when you’re as busy as we are here at Bowen!  We hope that everyone is able to take some time this weekend to enjoy the mild November weather (before it goes away!) and rest up for the short week ahead.  Thank you for everything you do to help support your children’s learning both in and out of school!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

News You Need to Know
Appreciation for the Staff Appreciation Lunch
Thank you so much to all of the 4th and 5th grade families who set up a lunchtime feast for the Bowen staff on Tuesday!  It was such a lovely treat to be able to skip a day of making a lunch and enjoy all the wonderful foods that were made and donated.  It really brightened everyone’s day!

Holiday Helpers
The holidays are a busy time for everyone, and we know that it can be a challenging time as well.  If your family is in need of some assistance during the upcoming holiday season, please contact our Bowen Social Worker, Stephanie Baumann or Principal, Diana Guzzi.  We look forward to hearing about how we can help!

Student Attendance
Students are able to do their best learning when they are here at school on a consistent basis.  It is every parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child attends school every day on time and ready to learn. If a student is absent from school, parents must contact the school (Safe Call Back telephone line 617 559-9350).  For more than three days illness, written documentation is necessary in order to ensure that the student is excused from school. If your family is traveling, please notify the teacher in advance of your trip.
Students who are absent or tardy for more than 10 days will receive a letter from the principal. Families whose child has more than 15 days absent or tardy from school will meet with the principal and other staff to discuss creating an attendance plan.  If attendance is identified as a chronic issue, we will work with the district's Attendance Officer to address our concerns.

Candy Donation Update
Everyone saw the overflowing donation bins in the lobby after Halloween...you may be wondering how much we donated to our overseas troops when all was said and done.  With our six bins, Bowen donated 231 pounds of candy to the candy drive!  Thank you so much to everyone for your participation!
