Dear Bowen Families,

Happy Friday once again!  These weeks just seem to fly by, don’t they?  Everyone here at Bowen is currently excited about a couple of big events.  One is obviously the Bowen PTO Halloween Party!  This is always a fun time for the Bowen community, with the chance to spend social time together for adults and children alike.  We really hope that many families will be able to join us on Sunday!  The other big event has already started and will continue into next week...teacher conferences.  We love seeing parents and guardians coming into school to connect with teachers face-to-face to discuss students and their learning.  Teachers always look forward to the opportunity to share information and hear from you about how the school year is going so far.  We all love to talk about kids!  Thank you for working together with us to make Bowen a great place to be!
Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

News You Need to Know

Bowen PTO Halloween Party
Join us at Bowen School on Sunday, October 30th for some Halloween fun!  There will be games, snacks, music, movies, face painting, a costume contest with prizes, and much more!  The party for Grades K-2 will be from 3:30-5:15 p.m., followed by the party for Grades 3-5 from 5:15-7:00 p.m.  The cost is $10 per child, and adults and children under 3 get in for free.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Trick or Treat for UNICEF
Once again, Bowen will participate in “Trick or Treat for UNICEF.”  UNICEF is an organization that donates food and water to kids around the world, as well as helping to provide vaccinations to kids.  Collection boxes will be sent home with children either today or on Monday, and we encourage kids to bring the UNICEF boxes with them while trick or treating to collect money.  Boxes can be turned in on Tuesday, November 1st in the Bowen lobby.  Thank you for being a part of Bowen’s “Trick or Treat for UNICEF”!

Before School Supervision
We just want to remind families that there is no adult supervision outside either in front of the school or on the playground before the start of the school day.  Children who are dropped off before 8:20 a.m. are not able to enter the school building, unless they are enrolled in before-school care.
Thank You - Costume Donations
Our 5th grade “project managers” very much appreciate all the donations of costumes and Halloween accessories that came in early this week!  Your generosity will help other families enjoy the holiday fun.  Thanks!

Bowen Family Survey - Closing Soon!
The Bowen School Council is seeking your feedback as we continue the practice  of implementing a brief family survey.  During this process we hope to identify trends and changes over time.  In order to do so, we need your help!  Below you will find a link for the anonymous survey from the Bowen School Council.  It is important for us to hear from you about what is working well at Bowen, areas to improve, and additional thoughts you have about your family’s experience at school.
We ask that EVERY parent/guardian of a Bowen student to please fill out the survey (so that if a student has 2 parents or guardians each person should each fill out a separate survey).
The online survey opened on October 20, 2016 and will close on October 31, 2016.  In addition to the online survey, paper copies were also sent home.  We have also translated the survey into three of the other primary languages spoken in Bowen homes: Chinese, Russian and Hebrew.  These are available in hard copy, upon request.
The survey can be found at the following link:
If you choose to complete the paper copy of the survey, there will be a collection envelope on the office door labeled “Bowen Family Survey.”  School Council members will collect surveys daily. Once the survey is complete and data has been collected, the Bowen School Council will work as a group to analyze the results and look for trends.  These findings will be presented at an open School Council meeting for all members of the Bowen community who wish to attend.  The results will also be shared in a Bowen School Council Meeting Summary email.
We look forward to using this valuable feedback to continue to help us grow and learn!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.  Thank you!

Halloween Candy Drive
Looking for a way to avoid eating ALL of the trick or treating treats?  Bowen School will once again take part in the Wellesley Dental Group’s Annual Community Candy Drive to benefit the US troops serving overseas.  We will be collecting candy and/or notes to the soldiers in the Bowen lobby from November 1st through November 4th.  Last year, 33 schools from 13 different towns participated and brightened the days of many soldiers.  Let’s do it again!
