Dear Bowen Families,

Happy Friday!  We have had a wonderful week filled with Bowen Community events, and it has been so much fun to see everyone coming together to celebrate in different ways.  From the slightly-damp Spring Fling on Sunday, to the sunshine-laden Color Day on Tuesday, right through the standing-room-only Spring Concert on Thursday night, parents, students, and staff have been out in full force!  Don’t think we’ve forgotten about the portfolio celebrations and other classroom-based events that have been taking over the calendar as we move QUICKLY toward the final days of the school year...we have so much going on here at Bowen.  And we love it!  Thank you for everything you do to support our wonderful community!

Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

Message from the 5th Grade Student Council - Summer Food Drive!
Dear Bowen families,

During the winter holidays, the Newton community donates more to the Newton food pantry than in the summer vacation due to holiday cheer.  But the summer is a understocked time for the Newton Food Pantry. Therefore more people will go hungry.   We at Bowen Elementary School do not want others to go hungry.  That is why we have made it our mission to help them. We are collecting food to donate to our local food pantry.   However, the food we are collecting to donate does not grow on trees.  We rely on your thoughtful donations.  The food we collect does have some guidelines, though.  The food we collect should not need expensive cookware, such as a microwave.  The foods must not go bad. Some foods that you could donate are:
  • Canned food
  • Chips
  • Crackers
  • Cookies
  •             And much more that you can donate to the helpless and hungry people.
  • Please place your donations in the box on the table in the lobby.  The deadline for donations is June 17, 2016.  We thank your cooperation and donation.
  • Sincerely, The Bowen 5th Grade Student Council of May-June, 2016
  • Newton Schools Foundation - Honor Thy Teacher 2016
  • The Newton Schools Foundation “Honor Thy Teacher” program provides a way to thank the hardworking staff at Bowen School while also supporting NSF in making new educational programs possible for the Newton Public Schools.  Any staff members who are honored receive a notice, and a list of all honored staff members will appear in the Newton Tab in the fall.  It’s a great way to thank individuals who have shown dedication and support to your children over the course of the school year!  The suggested donation to Honor Thy Teacher is $25 per teacher/staff member.  You can participate by visiting http://www.newtonschoolsfoundation.org/honor-thy-teacher.  All donations are tax deductible.
