Bowen News
March 4, 2016
Dear Bowen Families,

The month of March always provides many opportunities for interesting newsletter openings.  Do we think about the weather and the old saying about how March comes “in like a lion, out like a lamb”?  Do we look ahead to the Ides of March and Evacuation Day/St. Patrick’s Day?  (We can’t promise we won’t revisit those in a couple of weeks.)  However, sending this newsletter out on this particular date leaves us with one clear winner: we love this date because it is not only a date, but a command.  As we head into the weekend, let’s all “march forth” and get excited for all of the wonderful events and activities that stretch ahead of us throughout March!  Thank you for everything you do as part of our amazing Bowen community to support your children.  Have a wonderful weekend!
Yours truly,
Diana & Tiffany

News You Need to Know

Bowen BAM Night
It was wonderful to see so many members of the Bowen community here to celebrate books, art, and music at BAM Night this past Wednesday!  We had a packed house for the 4th and 5th grade talent show, and books were flying off the shelves as kids eagerly made their selections.  Thank you so much to the PTO volunteers for all of their work in organizing this much-loved event!

Bowen’s first Science Day will take place on Sunday, April 3rd from 1-4 p.m., and the stars of the show are Bowen students!  For more exciting details including project guidelines, examples, and resources, visit  Registration forms are required and are due back to Bowen by Monday, March 14th (Pi Day!).  This will reserve space for your child’s project!  Forms can be completed and given to “BoBot,” our Science Day robot, who is waiting in the Bowen lobby.  Registration can also be done online at  Any questions can be emailed to  We can’t wait to see the results!

Conference Time
The “official” window for family conferences opens next week!  By now you should have made an appointment with your child’s teacher to sit down and discuss how they are doing in school.  We all enjoy talking about kids and can’t wait to welcome you into school!

Creative Arts & Sciences - Community Concert
Come celebrate the global music experience that Bowen students (and you!) enjoyed this fall. Crocodile River Music, the Creative Arts & Sciences' Concert Series performer that you overwhelmingly loved, is bringing the music of Mali, Brazil, Spain and Trinidad, and the instruments and dances that celebrate these cultures to Newton. Join musicians from Bamako, Mali and Boston, Massachusetts for an evening of world class entertainment at Newton South High School. Complimentary wine, beer, and light fare will be provided and included in the price of a ticket. Discounted tickets ($20/each) are available to NPS employees and their families and friends - but only the adults, no one under 21 will be admitted. All proceeds to benefit PTO's Creative Arts & Sciences programming during the 2016-17 school year.
