Mrs. Martland (Bliss), Classroom Teacher

This is my eleventh year at Memorial - Spaulding school. I love teaching and learning. I attended undergrad at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Seven years ago I completed my masters degree from Wheelock College in Integrated Elementary and Special Education.

My husband and I live in Norwood, MA with our 2 year old son, our 6 year old yellow labrador, Zoe and another child due in late September!

This summer my family and I spent a lot of time at the beach with our family and friends.

Mrs. Gilbert - Assistant Teacher
Mrs. Gilbert comes to us from Solomon Schechter Day School where she was a first grade teacher. This is her first year at Memorial - Spaulding.

Meet Moxy!

Moxy is our classroom mascot. She is a (stuffed) black labrador.
Moxy met me and my dog Zoe two summers ago on Cape Cod. We couldn't believe it but turns out she is good friends with another first grade mascot, named Skallywag, and, Skallywag is the mascot in my mom's first grade classroom in Wellesley! We couldn't believe the connection! Skallywag, Moxy and Zoe spent all afternoon romping in the waves and chasing the seagulls. I told Moxy all about our classroom and got to thinking that Moxy could help out in Room 231. After all, labs love children! Also knowing about Skallywag's important job in his classroom, Moxy agreed that being a class mascot would be an amazing job.
So, Moxy and I decided that she should come live with my family and I. I knew that my son John would love having another dog! When we brought her home John and, my husband Andrew, were so excited!
This summer Moxy went to the beach, watched Fourth of July fireworks, took walks, read books, swam in a lake, and spent countless hours playing. We even saw Skallywag and the other first grade mascots a bunch! Moxy also helped me get ready for this coming school year. Since Labradors are naturally curious, she can't wait to meet all of you! She is excited to spend time with you as we learn to read, write, and become mathematicians. She can't wait to curl up with you to read a good book because she loves to snuggle.
Moxy and I loved spending time together over the summer so we thought it would be great if each of you could spend time with Moxy and introduce her to your families! Each of you will get to take Moxy home for a weekend during this school year! She is so excited to meet you and be a part of our classroom community.
